There’s no denying it anymore: Autumn is upon is. Now is the time to start prepping your wardrobe for the new season. Out with the old, in with the new, right? Wrong! Even though a major autumn shopping spree might be tempting, you really don’t have to get rid of all of your summer stuff yet. This not only saves you some cash, a bit of clever mixing and matching also gives you loads of extra outfit options. Here’s how:
Table of Contents
Add some texture
By adding new (heavier) textures to your wardrobe, you can already create a completely different vibe. Time to break out the knitwear! Easy to wear over your summer outfit. Or go bold and add some velvet, corduroy or satin. Rather play things save? A leather or denim jacket will do just fine.
New colours
A fresh colour palette can work miracles for your wardrobe. A little bit of burnt orange/brown for example will add warmth to your look and can easily be mixed with summery tops, like a silk shirt.
Footwear
New season? New shoes! Although a pair of basic leather trainers will work all year round, a pair of slides probably won’t (unless your living somewhere warm and sunny. In that case: Switch with me?). So, it’s time for something with a little more coverage. Who doesn’t like a good pair of ankle boots mixed with a cute dress?
Accessories
Accessories can lift up your look and when used properly, also determine the look and feel, for example I wouldn’t wear my best false lashes on a casual lunch, just on big nights out! Opt for a nice scarf in an autumn shade (burnt orange, darker greens, olive, mustard) and wear it with a plain white tee or a shirt for example.
Layering
That cute dress you’ve got? Perhaps you could style it with a pair of (skinny) trousers underneath. I’m currently eyeing a very nice dress which I thought might be a bit too short for this time of the year, but this would be the perfect solution to still wear it.
