Common Signs Your Marriage Is in Trouble

Common Signs Your Marriage Is in Trouble

Even though the divorce rate was down to 9.7 per 1,000 women in 2019, it is still all too common. When you get married, it is the furthest thing from your mind, right? You cannot even fathom such a devastating turn of events.

While everything must come to an end, why does it have to be this way with love? While it cannot be avoided, there are tell-tale signs to look out for if your marriage is in trouble. Keep in mind, your friends and family may see it coming before you do.

Marriages do last, but it is a fact of life that it may not. Have you let that fact sink in yet? The closer you can come to grips with this reality, the lesser the blow it will be if it becomes your reality.

Love is a lot like chemistry. It has to be the right mix and if something goes awry, then the ship starts to sink. If you’d like to know some of the more common signs to be aware of, read on.

Critical of One Another

One of the first signs your marriage is in trouble is when you start being overly critical of one another. It is normal to provide some constructive criticism here and there. The problem is when the criticisms outdo the positivity.

No one likes being told what to do or how to do it. Put yourself in their shoes for a minute, how would it make you feel if someone was constantly nagging you? If this type of behavior is happening more often than not, it may be time to seek out a marriage counselor to fix a broken marriage.

No Sex

Sexual droughts happen from time to time. If you’re not feeling the heat as much as you used to, there may be an underlying issue that needs to be resolved. This may be in the form of romance or emotional intimacy.

The best thing you can do is talk to your partner and see if you can get on the same page. While sex isn’t everything, it is super important to keep the spice alive. When you can be open and honest with your partner, you might need a new or different type of spice.

Thoughts of an Affair

Speaking of the bedroom, do you have thoughts of sleeping with someone else? A wandering eye is normal and nothing to be afraid of. You both are human after all and being in a committed relationship doesn’t erase your biological wants, needs, and desires.

When it becomes a problem is if you have a specific person in mind other than your partner. If your mind is filled with this person both emotionally and sexually, your marriage is in trouble. This happens when the one-party feels like something is missing or lacking in the relationship.

Be On the Lookout if Your Marriage Is in Trouble

Much like life itself, love is like a circle. The truth of the matter is you may experience multiple relationships in your lifetime. Romantic or not, people will pop in and out of your life.

Now that you have a better idea of when a marriage is in trouble, you’ll know what to look out for. If something isn’t feeling right, you know what needs to be done.

This is a tough pill to swallow for some, but the sooner you get comfortable with it, the better off you’ll be. As things come to an end, it’s best to separate as amicably as possible. When you can let someone go, you can begin to heal with time.
