When people think about my job, they usually picture me on stage with a microphone in my hand, singing at a wedding or special event. While I absolutely love performing, there’s so much more to being a musician than what people see on the day.
For me, it’s about constantly learning, meeting new people and being part of conversations that help shape the future of our industry. That’s why I recently attended two fantastic events, a music industry networking event at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and the Women in Music event at The Snug in Atherton.
Both reminded me of something I’ve believed for a long time.
Showing up matters.

Why Being in the Room Makes a Difference
We often hear about new funding, exciting initiatives and opportunities that are meant to support musicians and creatives. On paper, they all sound brilliant. But unless the people those opportunities are designed for are actually in the room, sharing their experiences and having honest conversations, how do we know they’re making the difference they should?
Being present gives us the opportunity to provide real feedback about what’s happening on the ground. It helps make sure promises are met with meaningful action rather than barriers, especially for women working in the music industry.
Celebrating Incredible Women in Music
One of the things I loved most about Liverpool Philharmonic Hall was seeing such a diverse mix of talented people from across Liverpool and the wider region. It really was a melting pot of musicians, educators, entrepreneurs, managers and creatives of all ages, all bringing something different to the conversation.
It was especially inspiring to see so many women leading the way in performing arts, education and the creative industries. Watching female entrepreneurs, managers and creators making such a positive impact reminded me how important representation really is.
We’ve made great progress, but I truly believe there’s always room to make sure every person feels seen, heard and celebrated.
Learning Never Stops
The Women in Music event at The Snug had such an open, welcoming atmosphere. It was full of honest conversations about opportunities, challenges and how we can continue supporting one another as the industry evolves.
Every networking event I attend teaches me something new. Whether it’s learning from someone else’s journey, discovering a fresh perspective or making a new connection, I always leave feeling inspired to become a better educator, visionary, musician and leader.
That’s one of the reasons I keep showing up.
Holding Space for Others
I’ve also realised that if you’re not in the room, it’s very difficult for someone to speak up for you. Sometimes opportunities come from conversations that happen over a cup of coffee or between sessions. Other times, they come from someone believing in you enough to introduce you to the right person.
I want to continue championing myself, but I also want to hold space for others. If I can encourage another musician, make someone feel welcome or help create opportunities for someone who’s finding their feet, then that’s something I’m incredibly proud to do.
After all, supporting one another only makes our industry stronger.
More Than Music
Whether I’m teaching a student, performing at a wedding or attending an industry event, it all comes back to one thing.
Connection.
Music has an amazing way of bringing people together, but so do conversations, shared experiences and communities that genuinely want to see each other succeed.
I’m excited to keep learning, keep growing and keep showing up, not just for myself but for everyone who believes music should be an industry where every voice has the chance to be heard.
Much love
